HEALTH
"Health is Wealth" is an old saying and is valid till date. With the advancement of science, the number and types of diseases have also grown. More consideration is given on medical research to encounter the evolution of new diseases. But one thing still holds good, i.e. the living syle of humans. This includes food habits, living habits, physical excercises, dietry regulations etc. Most educated people have become cautious about their healths. A second thing is that the people , in general, should have some basic knowledge about medicine irrespective to what field they belong. I, being a mechanical engineer, am also interested in medicine and some basic facts about day to day knowledge of science. In the on going effort on this subject, I have tried to gather some information on common items such as mineras, vitamins and some other interesting things which I have tried to gather from various sources. If you are interested in them you can download them from here.
Minerals
Minerals are elements that originate in the soil and cannot be created by living things, such as plants and animals. Yet plants, animals and humans need minerals in order to be healthy. Plants absorb minerals from the soil, and animals get their minerals from the plants or other animals they eat. Most of the minerals in the human diet come directly from plants, such as fruits and vegetables, or indirectly from animal sources. Minerals may also be present in your drinking water, but this depends on where you live, and what kind of water you drink (bottled, tap). Minerals from plant sources may also vary from place to place, because the mineral content of the soil varies according to the location in which the plant was grown. To know more about vitamins and their role click on the link below

In addition to vitamins your body also needs 15 minerals that help regulate cell function and provide structure for cells. Major minerals, in terms of amount present, include calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. In addition, your body needs smaller amounts of chromium, copper, fluoride, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, zinc, chloride, potassium and sodium.
Amounts needed for most of these minerals is quite small and excessive amounts can be toxic to your body. To know more details about minerals click on the link below to view or download the file.

Vinegar
Vinegar is a liquid produced from the fermentation of ethanol in a process that yields its key ingredient, acetic acid. The acetic acid concentration ranges typically from 4 to 8 percent by volume for table vinegar (typically 5%) and higher concentrations for pickling (up to 18%) although in some countries the minimum strength may be less. Natural vinegars also contain smaller amounts of tartaric acid, citric acid, and other acids. It has been used since ancient times, and is an important element in Western and European, Asian, and other traditional cuisines of the world. To know more details about vinegar view the file below.

Vitamins
A vitamin is an organic compound required in tiny amounts for essential metabolic reactions in a living organism. Thr term vitamin does not include other essential nutrients such as dietary minerals, essential fatty acids, nor does it encompass the larger number of other nurients that promote health but that are not essential for life.
Vitamins are bio-molecules that act both as catalyst and substrates in chemical reactions. When acting as catalyst, vitamins are bound to enzymes and are called co factors. For example Vitamin K is part of proteases involved in blood clotting. Vitamins also act as coenzymes to carry chemical groups between enzymes. For example folic acid carries various forms of carbon group-methyl, formyl and methylene-in the cell.To know more about the vitamins click on the link to view or download the file.

Until the 1900s, vitamins were obtained solely through food intake, and changes in diet (which, for example, could occur during a particular growing season) can alter the types and amounts of vitamins ingested. Vitamins have been produced as commodity chemicals and made widely available as inexpensive pills for several decades, allowing supplementation of the dietary intake. To know more details about vitamins click on the link to view the files

Olive oil is a fruit oil obtained from the olive (Olea europaea), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. It is commonly used in cooking, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps. Olive oil is considered a healthy oil because of its high content of monounsaturated fat (mainly oleic acid) and polyphenols.
Over 750 million olive trees are cultivated worldwide, with about 95 percent in the Mediterranean region. About three-quarters of global olive oil production comes from European Union member states; of the European production, 77% comes from Spain, Italy, and Greece; Spain alone accounts for more than 30% of world production, which was 2.6 million metric tons in 2002.
Greece has by far the heaviest per capita consumption of olive oil worldwide, over 26 liters per year; Spain and Italy, around 14 L; Tunisia, Portugal and Syria, around 8 L. Northern Europe and North America consume far less, around 0.7 L, but the consumption of olive oil outside its home territory has been rising steadily.
